A phrase that the Oxford English Dictionary reports was first used in 1736. It means "to make an inventory of the merchandise, furniture, etc., in one's own possession, recording its quantity and present value, or to make a careful estimate of one's position with regard to resources, prospects, or the like."

Equity Shopping

Added 13 more shares of RIL at 1283.80 (excl. brokerage). The "lucky number" 13 was chosen, so that I will hold 24 (a multiple of 8) shares of RIL. Rumours have been spreading on the demerger of the retail business from RIL. If this happens, then it is estimated that for every 100 shares of RIL, 13 shares of Reliance Retail will be alloted. Reversing the equation, for every 7.8 shares of RIL, 1 share of Reliance Retail will be alloted. So, if I hold a mutliple of 8, then I need not fear losing any money. Hopefully! I have already been bitten once, when the REVL shares merged with the Reliance Energy and RVCL merged with Reliance Capital. Since I did not hold a adequate no., I landed up losing the entire worth of those shares (~700 bucks)

Bought 60 shares of ITC at 164.25 (excl. brokerage).

Market looked very weak today, in sync with the global cues. Infy ended as a top loser in my portfolio. Overall the portfolio was down 1.25%, marginally better than the indices. Tech Mahindra and Batronics put up a good show.
